Gillian McCutcheon

Qualification & Education

Gillian is a fully qualified Counselling Psychologist and Clinical supervisor with professional affiliations with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). Gillian holds a MSc. in Counselling Psychology from Trinity College Dublin, a B.A. Psychology (Hons) from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, a Dip. Supervision from Vital Connexions and a Dip. in Counselling/Psychotherapy.

Experience

Gillian has worked in a variety of clinical settings providing assessment and therapy to individuals, groups and families across the lifespan of adults, children and adolescents. Gillian has also worked in the areas of abuse, oncology, child & adolescence including extensive experience in drug and alcohol Residential treatment.

Gillian has significant experience with emotional, behavioural and cognitive difficulties and deals with areas such as: anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship issues, bullying, bereavement and loss, abuse, trauma, and psychological distress.

Gillian's approach is evidence based and integrative drawing from Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Family & Systemic, Cognitive Behavioural/Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, incorporating Mindfulness practice and abiding by the PSI code of professional ethics. Gillian commits to continuing professional development and is engaged in regular clinical supervision.

Gillian focuses on establishing a safe therapeutic relationship for clients, recognising how it may be difficult to attend therapy for the first time. When we create a safe place, clients can explore difficult or painful issues at their own pace.

Gillian is also a Clinical Supervisor of various health care practitioners, Counsellors and Psychologists. Her supervisory practice draws from the Cyclical Model and the Process Model. These approaches look to create an open, non-judgemental learning space for supervisees, where they can review, reflect and develop their work and professional growth.

Gillian develops and delivers psychological education training and group work modules on topics of interest to specific groups. For example: Understanding Anxiety and How to Reduce Anxiety, Bullying: What is it?, Communication: How to, Parenting in Addiction and Self-Development and Relapse Prevention.
