Shane Smith, Counselling Psychologist

Shane Smith has over 10 years’ experience in the field of Psychology. He initially studied English and Psychology in UCD before completing a Higher Diploma in Psychology in Dublin Business School. Following this Shane went on to study for his Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in Trinity College Dublin.
Shane has extensive experience and has worked with clients dealing with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, psychosis, sleeping difficulties, eating disorders, psychosocial stress, relationship difficulties, and learning disabilities. He has provided individual therapy tailored to the clients’ needs using different approaches including person centred therapy (PCT) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Shane also has significant experience working with a wide range of at-risk groups, including young persons, individual mental health difficulties, physical disabilities, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.
In a previous role Shane worked in a clinical psychology team within an acute mental health setting, working with both inpatient and outpatients. Additionally, during his doctorate training he completed placements with adults, children and adolescents in a variety of different settings.
As part of his research for his Doctoral thesis, Shane focused on the critical area of ‘Therapist and Client engagement’. Shane is committed to promoting positive client outcomes and continues to keep his education current and relevant. In recent times he has completed relevant certification in Personal and People Development, Managing Conflict, Problem Solving and Process Management Skills, Introduction to Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Face to F.A.C.E training and Play Therapy.
